Answer your WeChat customers from the same inbox
Connect a WeChat service account and every message your followers send arrives in Vera.Support, alongside your other channels. Your team replies from one place, and the chatbot can answer there too.
This is for businesses whose customers reach them on WeChat rather than by email or chat. You need a verified WeChat service account before any of the steps below will work, so start that part early.
Step by step
Register a WeChat service account
WeChat requires a Service account, and that account must be verified before it can exchange messages. Verification takes a few weeks and costs USD 99, or CNY 300 for Chinese entities. Begin this first, because the rest of the setup waits on it.
Activate the WeChat app
In cloud.vera.support, open Settings > Apps and activate the WeChat app. This adds the WeChat settings area you will use for the remaining steps.
Copy your App ID and App Secret
In your WeChat account, go to Settings and development > Basic configuration. Copy the Developer ID (App ID) and the Developer Password (App Secret), then paste both into Settings > WeChat.
Complete the server configuration
Still in Basic configuration, fill in the server details. The Server Address (URL) comes from Settings > WeChat > Synchronization > Get configuration URL. Choose any Token you like, and enter the same value in Settings > WeChat > Token so the two sides match.
Send a test message
Write to your service account from WeChat and check that the conversation appears in your inbox. If you see an access_token missing error, see the note on the IP whitelist below.
Settings reference
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Settings > Apps | Where you activate the WeChat app so the channel and its settings become available. |
| Settings > WeChat | Holds the Developer ID (App ID) and Developer Password (App Secret) taken from your service account. |
| Settings > WeChat > Synchronization > Get configuration URL | Gives you the Server Address (URL) to paste into the Basic configuration screen in WeChat. |
| Settings > WeChat > Token | The token you invent for this connection; it must match the Token you set on the WeChat side exactly. |
Good to know
Verification is not optional
A WeChat service account has to be verified, which takes a few weeks and costs USD 99, or CNY 300 for Chinese entities. Plan the timing around this rather than around the setup itself.
The access_token missing error
If WeChat returns an access_token missing error, your server IP has not been allowed through. Add it under Basic Configuration > IP whitelist in your WeChat account.
What WeChat will not carry
Files and location attachments are not supported on this channel. Links are not supported either, and are delivered as plain text.
Rich messages are converted
Rich messages are converted to something WeChat can display where that is possible. Expect a simpler look than in the chat widget.
Follow-up and offline messages behave differently
The follow-up message always sends on WeChat, even when an agent has replied. The offline message is sent, but without the timetable.
